Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music didn't just bring an interest to the genre, but also to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016, compared to two songs from 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made it into the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix of Despacito (2017) popular artists quickly began to collaborate with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna and Maluma on Medellin (2019). At the time of 2020, some reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at that the genre was moving towards mainstream. But a fresh generation, including Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep reggaeton evolving. He often included elements from electronic dance and other genres.
